The Fighter Halfmoon (or Halfmoon Betta) is a highly prized variety of the Siamese fighting fish (Betta splendens). It is specifically bred for its dramatic 180-degree tail spread, which creates a perfect semi-circle resembling a half-moon when the fish flares.
Key Characteristics
Appearance: They feature long, flowing fins and come in a massive array of colors including iridescent blues, fiery reds, koi patterns, and metallic butterfly variations.
Behavior: Like all Bettas, they are highly territorial and aggressive. Males must never be housed together as they will fight until exhausted or seriously injured.
Labyrinth Organ: They possess a unique organ that allows them to breathe atmospheric air from the water's surface, a survival trait from their native slow-moving waters in Southeast Asia.
Intelligence: They are surprisingly smart; they can recognize their owners, learn feeding times, and even be trained to follow a finger.
