The Chilli Rasbora (Boraras brigittae), also known as the Mosquito Rasbora, is a tiny, vibrant red nano fish native to the peat forest swamps of southern Borneo, Indonesia. Measuring only about 0.6 to 0.8 inches (1.5–2 cm), they are prized by aquarists for their intense coloration and peaceful temperament.
Core Care Requirements
Tank Size: A minimum of 5 to 10 gallons is recommended to provide stable water parameters and swimming space.
Water Parameters: They thrive in soft, acidic water with a pH of 6.0–7.0 and temperatures between 22–26°C (72–79°F).
Environment: Use a heavily planted tank with subdued lighting and floating plants to mimic their natural habitat. Dark substrate helps their red colors "pop".
Social Needs: These are schooling fish; you should keep a group of at least 6 to 12 individuals to ensure they feel secure and display active behavior.
Diet & Compatibility
Diet: As micro-predators, they eat small foods like crushed flakes, micro-pellets, baby brine shrimp, and daphnia.
Tank Mates: Ideal for shrimp tanks as they are too small to pose a threat to adult shrimp. They pair well with other peaceful nano fish like Neon Tetras or small catfish.
