The Fighter Crown Tail is a popular and visually striking variety of the Betta fish (Betta splendens), commonly known as the Siamese fighting fish. Its name is derived from its unique caudal fin (tail), which features a "spiky crown-like" appearance, where the fin rays extend beyond the webbing.
Characteristics
Appearance: They come in a vast array of colors and patterns. The distinctive tail and other fins (except pectoral) have a "lion mane" or crown aesthetic.
Size: Adults typically grow to about 2.5 to 3 inches in length.
Origin: This breed is a result of selective captive breeding, first developed in Indonesia around 25 years ago. The original species is native to Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc.).
Temperament: As their name implies, these are aggressive and territorial fish, especially the males. Males should generally be kept alone in a tank to prevent fighting, and caution is advised when introducing any tank mates.
Care
Tank: A minimum aquarium size of around 35 litres (approx. 9 gallons) is recommended, but they can be kept in smaller nano aquariums.
Environment: They thrive in well-planted aquariums with places to hide. As labyrinth fish, they possess a special organ that allows them to breathe air from the surface.
Diet: They are easy to feed and will accept a varied diet of quality flake, pellets, frozen, and live foods.
Tank Mates: Due to their aggressive nature, choosing tank mates requires care. Peaceful, slow-moving species like small tetras (Neon, Ember) are often compatible, while shrimp, tiger barbs, or other cichlids are generally not recommended.
