The lemon tetra is a species of tropical freshwater fish which originates from South America, belonging to the family Characidae. It is a small tetra growing to 5 cm in length. The species is a long established favourite aquarium fish, being introduced to the aquarium in 1932. Lemon tetras grow to a maximum size of about 4-5 cm (1.57-1.97 inches), prefer a pH range of 6.0-7.0, and thrive in temperatures of 22-28°C (71.6-82.4°F). As omnivores, they readily accept flakes, granules, and frozen foods, and their natural habitat in the Amazon includes soft, slightly acidic water with dense vegetation for cover.
