The Sterba's Cory (Corydoras sterbai) is one of the most recognizable and beloved species of armored catfish in the aquarium hobby. Native to the Guaporé River region between Brazil and Bolivia, these fish are celebrated for their striking polka-dot pattern and vibrant orange pectoral fins.
Social Needs: They are highly social and must be kept in groups of at least 6 individuals to feel secure and display natural behaviors.
Substrate: A soft, sandy substrate is essential. Coarse or sharp gravel can damage their sensitive barbels (whiskers), leading to infections.
Water Conditions:
Temperature: 24–28°C (75–82°F). They are unique among Corys for tolerating higher temperatures, making them excellent tank mates for Discus.
pH: 6.0–7.5.
Diet: As omnivores, they require a varied diet of sinking pellets, algae wafers, and frozen treats like bloodworms or brine shrimp. Note that they are not just "cleaner fish" and need dedicated feeding.
