Description

The Albino Giant Gourami (Osphronemus goramy) is a striking, large freshwater fish known for its pale white/pink body, red eyes, and calm but commanding presence, requiring massive tanks as adults (up to 2 feet). This Southeast Asian native is an omnivore, enjoys varied diets (veggies, pellets, live food), and needs large, peaceful tankmates, though they can become territorial. They are prized by experienced aquarists for their unique look and peaceful, intelligent nature, but demand significant space and commitment.

Key Characteristics
      • Appearance: Pale, creamy-white to pinkish body with red eyes, flowing fins, and large size.
      • Size: Can reach 18-24 inches (45-60 cm) in captivity, making them unsuitable for small tanks.
      • Temperament: Generally peaceful and intelligent, but males can become territorial as they mature, says Pet Zone Tropical Fish and Pet Zone Tropical Fish.
      • Lifespan: Can live over 20 years with proper care, notes Pet Zone Tropical Fish and Pet Zone Tropical Fish.
      • Origin: Native to slow-moving rivers, lakes, and swamps in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia).

Aquarium Care
      • Tank: Requires a very large tank (hundreds of gallons for adults) with open swimming areas, sturdy plants, and driftwood.
      • Diet: Omnivorous; offer high-quality pellets, flakes, fresh vegetables (lettuce, peas, cucumber), and occasional live/frozen foods (worms, shrimp).
