Due to their distinctive shape, calm behavior, many bright colors and patterns, and dedicated parenting techniques, discus are popular as freshwater aquarium fish, and their aquaculture in several countries in Asia is a major industry. Discus fish grow to 7-9 inches, thrive in warm (82-86°F/28-30°C), soft, acidic (pH 6.0-7.0) water, and their diet should include a variety of high-quality foods like frozen brine shrimp, quality flakes, and beef heart mixes supplemented with vitamins and nutrients.
