The goldfish is a freshwater fish in the family Cyprinidae of the order Cypriniformes. It is commonly kept as a pet in indoor aquariums, and is one of the most popular aquarium fish. Goldfish released into the wild have become an invasive pest in parts of North America and Australia. Goldfish grow to be 6 inches or larger, with some varieties exceeding 12 inches, and thrive in a pH range of 6.5-8.4 and a temperature of 65-75°F (18-24°C), though comets prefer cooler waters (60-70°F). They are omnivores, primarily eating high-quality pellets, but also consume bloodworms, insects, and plant-based foods like peas, lettuce, and broccoli.
